A Year in the Village: Advent

November 29, 2025 – Antonín Dvořák Birth House, Nelahozeves

As the final event in our year-long series “A Year in the Village,” we warmly invite you to a day filled with hands-on crafts and traditional folk skills that offer a glimpse into 19th-century rural life.

Step into a time when the Advent season was a quiet, reflective period that shaped the rhythm of everyday life, far from today’s hustle and bustle. Explore an Advent trail designed to challenge your creativity and engage all your senses. At the workshop, you’ll make your own Advent decoration to take home, and learn how people prepared for this season 150 years ago.

The day will also include a special workshop led by Pavla Hubalová, where, under her expert guidance, you’ll create a Christmas wreath tailored to your taste. Please note: tickets for this wreath-making workshop must be purchased separately.

Join us on November 29 at the Antonín Dvořák Birth House in Nelahozeves for a day full of family-friendly activities, engaging stories about Czech traditions, and the chance to craft your own keepsake.

Step back in time with us—back to when life sounded, looked, and felt completely different from today.

Education Program: Christmas at the Dvořák Family Home

60 Minutes

In the past, the Advent season was much more than it is today—a time full of customs and traditions, festive foods, reflection, and anticipation. Join us to experience what the most magical holiday of the year might have looked like in a small village near Prague, back when the Vltava River still froze over and Christmas melodies drifted from the Dvořák family inn. The program is divided into two parts: a short interactive tour of the exhibition and a hands-on workshop where children will create a traditional Advent decoration inspired by the time of Dvořák’s childhood.

The program runs from December 1 to December 19, 2025.

Age Group:  Grades 1–5
