A Year in the Village: Feather Stripping
October 18, 2025 – Antonín Dvořák Birth House, Nelahozeves
As part of the year-long program “A Year in the Village”, we warmly invite you to a day of creativity and traditional crafts that bring 19th-century rural life to life.
When the fields outside the village turned to stubble and the bustle of farm work faded, it was time for feasting and celebration. In the 19th century, the posvícení (village feast) was held on the Sunday after St. Gall’s Day and was full of customs and traditions. Step away from today’s busy pace and come to the Antonín Dvořák Birth House to see what it was like when families gathered for feather stripping, what stories and fairy tales the village women told children, and whether the rooster survived the contest of chopping off its head.
Join us on October 18 at the Antonín Dvořák Birth House in Nelahozeves. Enjoy fun activities for the whole family, learn about Czech traditions, and make a small keepsake to take home.
Travel back with us to a time when life, work, and even conversation were very different from today.
